The Charterhouse of San Martino
The monastery and the Gothic underground
From the top of the hill of Vomero, in the Charterhouse of San Martino you can admire
the beautiful monks' cemetery made by Fanzago, its church, a jewel of Neapolitan baroque,
and then down to the ancient underground, discovering another cathedral under the Charterhouse.
Its long corridors and open spaces, designed by Tino Camaino and Attanasio Primario,
closed to the public for years, kept the marble works of sculptures and inscriptions section
of the National Museum of San Martino.
The tour continues downhill, along the scenic Pedamentina, the staircase that descends
from the Vomero hill towards the town center.
